Bulldogs make a statement with Round 1 win over Lions

SOUTH Fremantle couldn’t have made a more impressive start to the 2017 WAFL season kicking four goals in the opening 11 minutes to set up the eventual 39-point victory over Subiaco.

The Bulldogs entered Fremantle Community Bank Oval for Round 1 of the 2017 season looking to take it up to a Subiaco team who has played in the previous three grand finals and won its last six matches against South Fremantle.

South Fremantle made quite the statement early with those first four goals before Subiaco scored. The Bulldogs went on to lead by 44 points at half-time and ended up winning 17.14 (116) to 11.11 (77).

Playing with Bulldogs a dream come true for Solomon

DESPITE spending the past seven years with East Fremantle, Jake Solomon always dreamed of playing with South Fremantle, his family wanted him to and he will get that chance on Saturday in the season-opener against Subiaco.

The 22-year-old ruckman crossed from East Fremantle over summer in a swap for young forward Jesse Mirco in a move that both clubs were happy with, and that indeed Solomon and his family were delighted with.

Solomon's family has always supported the Bulldogs, even when he was playing at the Sharks, and he still recalls wearing a South Fremantle jumper down to train with Bull Creek-Leeming in his younger days.

Round 1 Preview v Subiaco

SOUTH Fremantle developed plenty in 2016, have added some handy pieces over summer and now look to get the 2017 WAFL season off to a perfect start hosting Subiaco at Fremantle Community Bank Oval on Saturday.

A full day of action is planned for Round 1 at Fremantle Community Bank Oval as well. The 16s will play at 9am, the colts at 11am, the reserves 1.30pm and then the league game bounces down at 4.15pm.

South Fremantle is coming off its first finals appearance since 2011 last year and winning its first final of any kind since the 2009 grand final.

Higgo's Heroes is back for 2017

WE are delighted to announce that the WAFL's hottest program Higgo's Heroes is back for 2017 with South Fremantle ruckman Brock Higgins delving deep inside the Bulldogs with all the hard-hitting questions for his star-studded line-up of guests.

Higgo's Heroes had big shoes to fill in 2016 taking over from the supremely popular and successful Whitey's Whispers that had been hosted by Bulldogs legend, 192-game dual premiership player Craig White.

His retirement following the 2015 season might have been significantly easier to replace on the field than it proved to be off it with the hard-working Whitey's Whispers production team suddenly left without a host.

Curley impressed by hungry, motivated Bulldogs coming into 2017

SOUTH Fremantle coach Todd Curley has been impressed with the way his playing group has tackled pre-season on the back of a finals appearance in 2016 and he sees a hunger in them to suggest they are ready to improve further in 2017.

For the first time since 2011, South Fremantle made the WAFL finals in 2016.

Then to start things off won a first final since the 2009 premiership decider by beating West Perth at Fremantle Community Bank Oval in the qualifying final.

SOUTH Fremantle opens its 2017 McDonald's WAFL Premiership Season this Saturday against Subiaco at Fremantle Community Bank Oval with a twilight start time for the league clash of 4.15pm.

The Bulldogs and Lions finished in the top two positions at the end of last year's home and away season before meeting in the second semi-final, and Saturday's clash is sure to be an exciting way to start the 2017 season for both clubs.

It will be the first of a four-game twilight start time trial by the Bulldogs. We are hoping all South Fremantle supporters and members enjoy the chance to either spend the day in Fremantle and cap it off by watching us play, or make a start to their night in the port by heading down to watch the action at Fremantle Community Bank Oval.

Bulldogs launch season with a bang

SOUTH Fremantle launched the 2017 WAFL season in style on Saturday night with a successful club-wide event at Fremantle Community Bank Oval.

The Bulldogs hosted Claremont in the final round of the WAFL pre-season with the season launch event taking place after South Fremantle's league side remained unbeaten heading into 2017 with an impressive 17.8 (110) to 7.11 (53) victory over the Tigers.

After the hit out, the entire South Fremantle playing group made up of those in the senior and colts program gathered in the Griff John Function Centre to be on hard with a large collection of supporters, members, family and friends.

Dell'Olio excited yet nervous over return with Bulldogs

THERE might be few people more nervous yet excited come Round 1 than Cory Dell'Olio with the South Fremantle premiership player desperate to be back involved at the Bulldogs after missing all of 2016.

Dell'Olio returned to South Fremantle after playing 16 games in four years at Essendon in 2015 looking to be part of a similar run of success that he had at the Bulldogs prior to his AFL career that included the 2009 premiership.

He had a good first year back in 2015 kicking 33 goals to be the club's leading goalkicker while also playing in Western Australia's state game victory over South Australia.
