SOUTH Fremantle backed up its stunning win over Subiaco with a heart stopping one-point win against East Perth on Saturday at Fremantle Community Bank Oval thanks to a Zac Strom mark and goal just before the siren.

South Fremantle's form throughout the 2019 season has been building nicely including handing Subiaco its first defeat since the 2017 Grand Final last Saturday at Leederville Oval.

That meant the Bulldogs came into Saturday's clash with East Perth full of confidence but the Royals came with a determination for a fighting performance too setting the tone for a terrific contest.

THE first night game for the year on Friday was a great success with both South Fremantle Women's teams coming up against strong sides from East Perth at Fremantle Community Bank Oval.

In the senior team, Leo O’Kane’s 100th game was one to remember, as she kicked two majors and contributed to the forward-line pressure all night.

WHAT South Fremantle coach Todd Curley had to say following the nail-biting one-point win against East Perth at Fremantle Community Bank Oval leading into the WA Day Foundation Derby against East Fremantle on Monday.

QUESTION: Great advertisement of WAFL football but for you, must be just happy to come away with the win?
ANSWER: I guess they always look better when you win, but I thought they played pretty well. They were pretty consistent and obviously came here with a plan, and they used the ball quite well. We didn’t defend very well but found a way to win when we probably weren’t at our best. We had a lot of guys probably down in the first half but they dug in and bounced back. We'll certainly take the four points and move on.

SOUTH Fremantle looks to continue its hot WAFL form when hosting East Perth back home at Fremantle Community Bank Oval on Saturday.

The Bulldogs are in tremendous form having now won five of their six matches this season with the lone loss being by just three points to Perth in a game that could have gone either way.

So it has been an outstanding start to the season for South Fremantle with the Bulldogs now hosting East Perth on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Community Bank Oval.

SOUTH Fremantle had been impressive to start the 2019 season and then went up another gear on Saturday to hand Subiaco its first defeat since the 2017 Grand Final coming away from Leederville Oval with a tremendous 22-point victory.

Coming off playing in the past three preliminary finals and then losing a host of quality, experienced players coming into 2019, there were plenty of questions surrounding South Fremantle's ability to remain a standout team this season.

However, six rounds into the season now those questions have been answered.

Heading into the State Game break, South Fremantle had looked tremendous over the first five rounds beating Swan Districts, West Perth, East Fremantle and the West Coast Eagles with the only defeat by just three points against the undefeated Perth.

So the Bulldogs had reason to feel good about how they were travelling heading into the clash with Subiaco on Saturday and they outplayed the Lions virtually all day to end up winning 12.11 (83) to 9.7 (61).

BOTH South Fremantle Women’s teams continued their strong start to the 2019 WAFL Women's season for Round 6 in their matches against Subiaco on Sunday at Leederville Oval.

The Reserves and Rogers Cup Youth Girls teams knew it would be a physical and tough encounter that saw both teams fighting until the final siren. 

Subiaco are a very structured side like all the league teams in the competition and when sides like these are faced, South Fremantle need to be 100 per cent ready for the challenge.  Read More [+]
