Player Column – Josh Pullman Round 7

Thursday, May 5, 2016 - 9:38 AM by Josh Pullman

OUR senior squad came away from the weekend’s loss to Subiaco with some important feedback as to where we’re at.

As a club, we know we’ve made some significant inroads in 2016 across areas like our leadership, game-plan, preparation and performance.

A game against a club like Subi always acts as a good stress test and although the result wasn’t the one we were after, we come away with some clear things to work on.

Amongst the areas we want to improve, there were some real positives as well.

Our midfield is continuing to show signs of some real chemistry, with guys like Josh Branchi and Shane Hockey linking up for some damaging clearances.

Zac Strom continues in his relentless work rate, which is a reflection of his approach to training. He is a great example of a player who has earnt his teammates trust – you know he won’t leave anything out on the track during the week, or on game day.

The review of the game on Monday revealed that our game plan - when we execute it correctly - holds up really well against formidable sides like Subiaco, which is encouraging.

We didn't play anywhere like the way want to in the first half, but once we corrected a few things in the third quarter we showed that we are capable of playing well against the best team in the competition. So that is something to give us confidence against every other team and then for when we play them again later in the year.

A new round brings a new challenge in Claremont. It’s an important game for both sides as we look to get back on the winners list, and we’ll be preparing for the Tigers at their best.
