2011 has been the most successful season in the club’s short history with the club also achieving:

GOLD QUALITY CLUB – the only female club in Australia to achieve this status and the only club in the South Fremantle District

SENIOR CLUB OF THE YEAR – South Fremantle District

Head Coach, Garry Burgess was honored to win Senior Coach of the year in the South Fremantle District. Garry is a Ron Barrassi devotee and the players surprised him with a phone call from the great man himself and presented him with a ball signed by Ron Dale Barrassi. Ron Barrassi was so impressed with Garry that he has sent a cheque donation to the SFWFC . As the cheque is signed by this legend, it has been framed and kept as a momento!

Bulldogs look to 2012 with plenty of optimism

By Chris Pike

SOUTH Fremantle might have come up short against Subiaco in last Sunday's first semi-final, but the Bulldogs overcame plenty to still make the finals in 2011 and coach John Dimmer and the rest of the club have plenty of reasons to be optimistic looking toward the future.

The Bulldogs overcame a host of players being forced into retirement due to injury, having plenty of season-ending injuries and then a heap of players battling long-term problems throughout the 2011 season.

However, despite that South Fremantle still sat inside the top-four for most of the season, beat East Fremantle in the last round to make the finals and with the blooding of plenty of young talent as well to go with a dominant colts team, the future for the Bulldogs certainly looks bright.

Dimmer can certainly see the positives in the season overall, but the 85-point first semi-final loss to Subiaco last Sunday at Medibank Stadium wasn’t what they were after.

Now to improve, he knows that the young players that struggled on the finals stage will need to learn from that experience if the Bulldogs are to be genuine premiership threats again, rather than just finalists.

"Considering a lot of the players we had injured were actually quality players as well I think we have done quite well to make the finals. We blooded a lot of young guys who some of them might have been found out on this stage, but that's all part of their development as well. We are happy we got here, but this result was disappointing," Dimmer said.

"With the colts kids coming through and some of the younger blokes we've given games to I think it's quite an exciting time at the club. We just need those players who played this week but didn’t perform very well to learn from it and improve.

"If people can keep improving then the club will be better for it. Playing in the first semi is great, but we want to play grand finals and win premierships. That's what it's all about."

Dimmer doesn’t especially think that the big win over East Fremantle the previous week in a do-or-die derby took it out of his team, but he did certainly feel that Subiaco's fitness was superior to his side's giving him plenty to work on over summer.

"It might have taken a bit out of us, but we have been trying to keep the boys fairly fresh. We've had some injuries and that has been difficult, but I thought that some of our fitness looked a bit off the mark out there against Subi, and that's a learning curve for those players as well," he said.

"They know now that they have to have a really big pre-season to improve in that area. Generally I thought we were alright, but our skills let us down a lot."

One young player that stood up impressively was 19-year-old ruckman Damian Hayward in his seventh league game. He had 27 hit outs in the ruck, but perhaps more impressively took two strong marks and converted with goals up forward. Dimmer predicts a bright future for him.

"He has come on really well. The mark he took up in the goal square at the far end was brilliant and then to convert his two chances was great," he said.

"He had 27 hit outs as well which is a darned good effort too so there is a lot of upside to Damian Hayward. You never know, there might be some AFL talent scouts out there having a look at him."

There has been plenty of talk about South Fremantle's senior players, but at this stage only Paul Hasleby has announced his retirement.

While Toby McGrath is weighing up his future, it is expected that Kris Miller, Hayden North, Theo Adams, Craig White, Josh Head and Andrew McCarrey will play on, and given Sam Hunt, Scott Thornton and Gerard Wilkie did retire early in 2011 there is plenty of room for their experience.

Dimmer certainly will leave it up to all those players to make up their mind.

"Paul Hasleby has retired and I'm not sure about Toby McGrath. He will probably weigh up over the next couple of months what he wants to do. Kris Miller has indicated that he wants to play on but he will weigh up what he wants to do over the next couple of months as well," Dimmer said.

"I think North and Head will play on, I know that Hayden North especially is pretty keen to get to 150 games and they are both playing terrific footy. We will sit down once everything is settled down and have a chat to see what Toby wants to do, and go from there.

"I don’t think I have ever told anybody to retire and I certainly won't be doing that this year. If they are still good enough to play then they play. If they are not, then they play reserves."

Dimmer and South Fremantle certainly has plenty to look forward to with a strong band of young players coming through that have tasted league football in 2011 and who are part of the colts team that's in the grand final already.

Then the likes of Toby Bairstow, Reece Adams, Joel Palumbo, Morgan Cooper, Matthew Leece and Jarrad Winter all took the next step this year and Chris Bossong, Adam Guglielmana, Jarrod Parry and Adam McIntosh will be among the players returning from injury.

When Dimmer arrived to coach South Fremantle in 2004 the colts had just won the premiership, the reserves then did in 2004 and then the league side did in 2005.

That included the likes of Ashton and Kyle Hams, Craig White, Theo Adams and plenty of others coming through with that group, and Dimmer has a similar feeling about the club right now.

"The colts are a very good side, are into the grand final and some of them will get drafted, but others will become good league footballers as well. We have blooded some of them this year and they've looked reasonably good, but probably their fitness is just a bit off what was required," Dimmer said.

"That will develop over time though. We are looking forward to a batch of these young kids coming through similar to what happened in 2004 and 05 after the 2003 colts premiership for the club."

GIRLS GO GOLD!

The South Fremantle Women’s Football Club has just achieved the Gold Quality Club Award. In doing so, we become the first club in the South Fremantle District, the first women’s club in the State and the only women’s club in Australia to reach this standard. We are very proud of this achievement that has been due to the time and effort put in by the committee this year.

On 17th July we celebrated the 50 game milestones of Jessica Aspinall, Sheridan Gore and Jenna Allomes. Not only was this a wonderful achievement in their playing career but between them we had 2 captains, a President, 2 Vice-Presidents, a Football Manager, a Team Manager, a Development Officer and 2 Level 1 coaches. They have contributed so much to club off the field as well as on the field and we really appreciate their efforts. South Fremantle league players, Toby Bairstow, Morgan Cooper and Cory Del’lolio were on hand to join in the celebrations and present the Best on Ground awards. Thank you!

In recent weeks we have had Michael Mitchell drop into training and take the girls for a series of drills and Dr Les Fabre take a wonderful tackling clinic. On 8th August, South Fremantle coach, John Dimmer, will be taking the Talent Academy squad and then be addressing the league squad as we gear up for our finals campaign.

PUPS HEAD EAST

Everyone involved with the South Fremantle Football Club would like to congratulate Josh Bootsma, Shane Kersten and Brendon Ah Chee on their recent selection in the 2011 AFL Draft.

Joshua was selected with pick 22 by Carlton; Josh came up from Albany half way through the season with the colts, with his consistent performances playing at Centre Half Back he was a vital member to the side having great success this year.

Shane went Geelong with pick 34; Shane’s season was a roller coaster ride after having consistent performances in the reserves before suavely injuring his elbow. He finished his season strongly with the colts kicking 26 goals in 7 games.

Brendan will be heading to Port Adelaide after being pick 45 in the draft. Brendan had an interrupted pre season with a knee injury, but returned to the colt’s side in round 5. He backed up his consistent 2010 season by winning his consecutive Dave Ingraham medal with the colts

We wish all the best to these 3 young men and we hope they have long and successful careers with their new clubs.

HASLEBY IN CONTROL

Three former Dockers players, Paul Hasleby, Scott Thornton and Andrew Siegert have been entrusted by the Bulldogs decision makers to rebuild the senior playing squad into a formidable team capable of playing finals football this year.

Senior coach, Hasleby has a hard act to follow replacing dual premiership coach John Dimmer who left an indelible mark in the recent history of the South Fremantle Football Club.

Hasleby is the first rookie coach appointed by the club since Peter Sumich took over from Tony Micale in 2000.

No doubt it will take time for Hasleby to implement his playing style and game plan successfully with the youthful Bulldogs squad but he has at his disposal a blend of experienced and exciting young talent which should improve as the season progresses.

The Bulldogs are placing a lot of faith on three interstate recruits Sean Tighe a tall forward from Werribee, Alex Grima a hard running midfielder from Glenelg and Mitchell Thompson another midfielder who played reserves for the Sydney Swans in 2011.

WAFL recruits, Ben Saunders, Shaun Bewick and Lewis Harvey have added further bite to the clubs midfield. Perhaps the biggest improvement however, will come from former colts players, ruckman Damien Hayward, forward Mason Shaw, tall defender Brendan Gulley and exciting prospects Sean Lynch, Jason Maskos and Adam Carter.

FIGHT BACK OF THE CENTURY

A fired up Perth Demons brilliantly led by AFL stars Paul Bevan and Leon Davis accumulated a 50 point lead by three quarter time when Bulldogs coach Paul Hasleby asked his players for a special effort and to never give up if they wanted to earn the respect of the football public.

The large and vocal crowd at Fremantle Oval all of whom were expecting a convincing victory for the visitors were stunned when the Bulldogs in a complete reversal of form put on a display of fast play on football which gave the home team a remarkable victory by 8 points when they piled on 10 goals 4 points to one solitary goal.

The remarkable turnaround saw youngster Damien Hayward dominate the centre bouncedown giving his midfielders first use of the football and the rest is history. An inspired team could do no wrong and the Coaches words to never give up rang loud and true as the Bulldogs pulled off one of the greatest come from behind wins in the clubs history.

SFFC Colts v Perth

A strong start to the 2012 season as the colts side accounted for a gritty Perth team to the tune of 45 points. A hectic opening quarter saw both sides struggle to gain any ascendency as they came in at the first break fairly even on the score board. Some undisciplined acts cost the south boys two early goals and had to wait late in the term to even up the contest. A solid second term saw the south boys going in at the big break with a handy three goal lead as the maturity of the group steadied to control play in all areas of the field. Ben Sokol and Josh Kyle were dangerous targets up forward and gave the Perth defence lots to think about. Devlin Reidy-Croft lead the midfield along with new captain Nick D’Andrea and the dogged Simon Panizza. The midfield then took complete charge in the third term and put on a display that was reminiscent of grand final day last season. A seven goal term was setup by the dominant midfielders, with Tim Kelly(K-Craft Bullbars best player), Dylan Main and Sam Lowrie dominating the centre square and consistently forcing the ball toward the dangerous forward line. The backline were as solid as ever and lead well by former captain Robbie Thompson. He along with his new diminutive duo in Steve Rassmussen and Mathew Gundry were steady under the early pressure and gelled well later to quell any thought of a demon comeback. Congratulations to the five debutants Ben Sokol, Josh Kyle, Mathew Gundry, Tom Vandeluer and Reece Miller, on their first game with the Bulldogs.

Welcome aboard to our new team sponsors Golden Eggs and MCAS Engineering, and also to Tony and Chris Liddle from K-Craft Bullbars for their continued support of the South Fremantle Colts.

Lions win thriller

Despite being in front for most of the game the Bulldogs’ poor disposal resulting in numerous turnovers proved costly when the straight shooting Lions sealed the game in the dying minutes of the last quarter.

The home side had eighteen more inside 50’s and seven more scoring shots yet couldn’t prevail against a gallant Lions team which showed greater maturity and steadiness under pressure.

For the Bulldogs skipper Ryan Cook continued his outstanding form with a 37 possession game which surely would enhance his prospects of state selection and improve his chances of winning the Sandover Medal.

Toby Bairstow, Anthony Collica, Kris Miller, Toby McGrath, Josh Head and hard working ruckman Damian Hayward continued their good form from last week.

Coach Paul Hasleby would have been pleased with his players never say die attitude and once the team gets on top of its poor disposal and improves its goal front accuracy then further wins will be forthcoming.

Scores: Subiaco 3.3 8.4 12.5 18.5 113

                        South Fremantle 6.2 9.10 12.11 15.15 105

SFFC Colts Vs Subiaco

A comprehensive display from the reigning premiers as they outplayed and injury ravaged Subiaco colts team. Some early work from the dominant midfield gave Josh Kyle, Manny Collard (4 Goals), Jayden D’Vauz (2 Goals), and other forwards ample opportunities to have an impact on the scoreboard. The quarter time score did not reflect the South teams control of the term; this was quickly rectified in the second as Tim Kelly and Reece Miller (K Craft Bullbars award winner), continued give south the ascendency in the midfield. The control of the majority of the play started to take its toll on an opposition short on numbers. The backline lead by Sean Lynch, Matty Gundry and Steve Rassmussen repeatedly repelled the Subiaco forays and turned defence into attack with controlled movement of the ball. The second half was similar to the first with the South players posting an eighty point win that emphasises the potential of this group. It is pleasing to see the group playing in a style that will see them have success both as a team and as individuals. This was made evident with twelve players getting on the goal scoring list.

The colts program continues to develop into a breeding ground for talent and is benefitting from the Warriors development system. The transition from junior football to WAFL level is quickly achieved with players ready to take up key roles within the colts team. Well done to those concerned and also my support staff for their continued great efforts at the colts.

League Report SDFC vs SFFC

Swan Districts proved too strong for the young Bulldogs outfit at Steel Blue on Monday running out winners by 23 points in a sea sawing game.

The hapless Bulldogs were severely hampered by only having two fit players on the interchange bench in the second half which restricted the number of rotations off the bench which compounded matters.

Two former colts players Shannon Burnett and Jason Maskos made their League Debuts with other youngsters Haiden Schloithe, Ben Saunders, Nicolas Borovac and Damien Hayward all of whom who have played less than ten senior games in action.

The lack of experience proved costly in the end especially in the thirty degree heat with only 20 fit players.

Evergreen Stalwarts Toby McGrath, Paul Mugambwa, Josh Head, Toby Bairstow and Kris Miller were prominent players in what was otherwise a disappointing day for the side.

League Report Round 5

The Claremont tigers easily accounted for a bulldogs line up which once again did not get value for effort with poor disposal quite often resulting in costly turnovers.

The ratio of handballs to kicks is still a concern and until the team can emulate the tigers in this department then the side will continue to struggle.

On Sunday, Claremont had 61 more kicks than the bulldogs but 17 less hand passes and after their 60 point victory are back on top of the ladder.

Claremont’s conversion rate for their inside 50’s was also superior with 34 scoring shots from 54 entries compared to Souths 16 scoring shots from 43 entries into the scoring zone.

Once again Kris Miller with 36 possessions and five inside 50’s led the way in the midfield despite Claremont winning 56 ruck taps compared to Souths 27.

Coach Paul Hasleby will be wise to continue persevering and blooding youngsters this year despite not getting the results on the scoreboard.

The side is crying out for its talls and key position players to have a greater impact on the game.

Next week the side travels to Bendigo Bank Stadium to take on Peel Thunder fresh from their opening victory for the season against Swan Districts, so this game should be a real challenge.

South Freo Junior Indigenous Stars Shine on the Gold Coast

Six of South Fremantle’s under 16’s side recently returned from Queensland after competing in the AFL Indigenous KickStart Competition. Five of the players were part of the WA side that won the Nicky Winmar Cup in February and Kerry Hill was from the South Fremantle Regional side, the Upper Great Southern.

The talented youngsters from the Bulldogs included Callum Ah Chee, Anthony Lawrence, Troy Garlett, Josh Collard (son of Cliff Collard), Cody Ninyette and Kerry Hill. The trip was a great experience for many of these talented juniors and in particular Callum Ah Chee, the younger brother of Port Adelaide drafted Brendan Ah Chee, “I spoke to my brother and he said just play your best and have fun.” Which is exactly what Callum did being one of the best on ground.Josh Garlett in particular found the highlight of the trip was listening to AFL idols speak to the youngsters, it helped spur them on in the competition and gave them good incentive to continue playing their best in Aussie Rules.

This entire talented group of youngsters enjoyed the opportunity and fought a tough game but all conceded that their opponents were “nice guys off the field”.

Round 6 - Colts Report

The colts side returned to the winners circle with a resounding performance this week against a rugged Peel side. It was pleasing to see the players respond to a loss last week and put up an effort equal to their ability. With a injury and promotion of some key players it was a game possibly full of excuses from a side that has dominated for the past few months. Congratulations to Brett Hill and Andrew Durack whom both played their first colts game and Harley Vanderweilen on his first game for the year. All three have performed well for their affiliate clubs and impressed on the training track to earn their place in the side. Harley was among our better players and kick 4 goals in his role as a quick small forward. Other impressive players were Rhys Miller and Sam Lowrie, they along with Adam Carter spread well through the midfield and also were damaging as forwards when resting in the front half of the ground. Adam Carter earned the KCraft best player award this week after rebounding from a quite week against Claremont. Another to lift this week, after a quiet start to the season, was Marvin Warrell. Marvin was damaging in his new role at half back. He repeatedly turned defence into attack and finished off the good work of the backline which played with more vigour and strength than they have shown in the past. The team was able to dominate for most of the game and never looked threatened as they winners all over the ground. Some players that started slowly were able to lift their performance and overcome they own poor start to make sure they contributed to a well earned win by the whole team. The sides fitness in the second half was overwhelming for the an opposition struggling to keep up with a Bulldogs side full of run and sparkle. Thanks to the support staff for their efforts with key personnel missing. On behalf of all the staff I would also like to congratulate our team secretary Sue Jones on becoming a grandmother. Her daughter Jessica giving birth to Madison during the week.

Round 6 - League Report

A revitalised Bulldogs squad ran out comfortable 73 point winners over a disappointing Peel Thunder at Bendigo Bank Stadium to claim back to back Gary Holland Cups. The coach and selectors were spot on when they elevated first game debutants Mitchell Thompson, Jordan Wilson-King and John Sgherza after impressive form in the reserves as each played a significant role in the League teams dominance over Peel Thunder after an even first quarter.

Another master stroke by the selectors was the placement of Andrew McCarrey to full forward who put on a best on ground display to notch five telling majors for the game. Though Souths ruck stocks were depleted with the absence of Damian Hayward and the out of form Ryan Murphy, high profile recruit Sean Tighe put on an impressive display in the ruck and around the ground in his best performance for his new club. Souths backline combined well as a unit and many forward thrusts began through the hard running of Josh Head and Wilson-King. Midfield run and speed was quite evident throughout the game with Kris Miller, Bairstow, Cook and Guglielmana all prominent.

Next week’s Anzac Day Derby at Shark Park should be a real thriller – So don’t miss the action.

Coming off a 73 point win against Peel Thunder, the Bulldogs will be looking for their third win of the season when they take on arch rivals East Fremantle at Shark Park on Saturday as part of the WAFL Anzac Day Round.

East Fremantle will come into the game after two successive losses to Subiaco and East Perth and will be fired up to win the first derby of 2012 after being eliminated from the finals in 2011 by the Bulldogs in the last home and away game.

To win this game the Bulldogs will need to shut down the Sharks potent midfield brigade led by Mark McGough, Rory O’Brien, Richard Hadley and Sam Menegola.

South Fremantle players will be wearing black armbands on Saturday in honour of triple premiership defender Gerry Bahen who passed away during the week.

East Fremantle loses in form ruckman Jonathon Griffin who will replace injured Aaron Sandilands in the Dockers line up tonight.

Round 7 - League Report

The Anzac Day Derby against arch rivals East Fremantle proved to be a disastrous day for the Bulldogs with all three grades being comprehensibly beaten by the rampaging Sharks.

East Fremantle took control of the game early in the first quarter when ruckman Russell Gabriel and Rob Young tapped the ball to the advantage of their midfielders who then were able to penetrate the Bulldogs defence setting up scoring opportunities for Jack Perham who kicked three goals.

When wet weather set in the Sharks adapted much better to the slippery conditions with Rory O’Brien, Mark McGough and second gamer Cameron Sutcliffe dominating the midfield clearances.

For the visitors in what was a bleak day coming off a 73 point victory against Peel Thunder, there were few winners.

Hayden North tried valiantly in defence with Andrew McCarrey and Ben Saunders making their presence felt at times in the forward half.

South’s coaching staff and players have only seven days to turn around their form when they take on last year’s finalist West Perth at Fremantle Oval.

It may seem a big task but a return to form may only be around the corner.

Next week Hayden North joins an elite group of footballers when he becomes the clubs 48th player to notch up 150 league games over the clubs 113 year history.

Hayden journeyed to Fremantle Oval from Boddington in 2001 and played 16 colts games and three reserves games before making his league debut in the 2002 season under former Richmond great John Northey.

By 2005 Hayden had become a regular player and made his state debut against Queensland on a half back flank, a position he has excelled in since arriving at the home of the Bulldogs.

2005 capped off a great year for Hayden when he was a member of the premiership side which were comprehensive winners over Claremont.

Though he was overlooked by the selectors for the 2009 grand final he put on a best on ground performance in the victorious Reserves grand final game.

Along the way Hayden has had to endure a lot of treatment for back related injuries but has always come through with shinning colours.

From his first year at Souths when he won the Dave Ingraham Memorial Medal for best and fairest in the colts to his 150th game against West Perth when he qualifies for life membership of the bulldogs his career has been one of consistency and one to be proud of.

Round 8 - League Report

The Bulldogs celebrated Hayden North’s 150th game in fine style by defeating the plucky Falcons by 26 points on Saturday at Fremantle Oval.

Led by the veteran North who was inspirational in his milestone game and a six goal haul by youngster Ben Saunders the Bulldogs led from start to finish but not without some anxious moments when the Falcons drew within five points in the tense last quarter.

As has become the norm rather than the exception, midfielder Kris Miller put in another outstanding performance gathering 29 possessions and 8 inside fifties. His has been a stellar season and state selection for the game against South Australia later this month should be a just reward.

Once again the Bulldogs players wore black arm bands this time for Sebastian Rioli, uncle of Cyril who put on a best on ground performance in the Hawks win over Saint Kilda in an audacious and fitting tribute to Sebastian who pioneered the introduction of Tiwi Islanders to play football in the WAFL in 1972.

Next week the Bulldogs take on the all conquering Royals at Medibank Stadium before a two week bye period leading up to the Foundation Day Derby.

Scores:

SFFC 16 – 12 DEF WPFC 11 -16

Goals: B Saunders 6, A McCarrey 3, H Schloithe 2, J Winter 2, K Miller, J Head, J Woods

Best: B Saunders, H North, K Miller, P Mugambwa, J Head, T Bairstow

Round 8 - Colts Report

The South Fremantle colts side has again overcome a poor start to run down a disappointing Falcons team that held a 24 point lead halfway through the second quarter. The South’s boys were ordinary early in the game and were punished for their inability to control the ball allowing West Perth to score easily. The backs were under pressure and if not for the good work of Jayden D’Vauz and Robbie Thompson the deficit may have been greater. The team must be commended for their ability to change their fortunes halfway through the second term and regain a slight lead at half time. Brett Hill and Andrew Durack worked tirelessly in the ruck to give our slick midfielders opportunities. Reece Miller and Sam Lowrie won the ball inside traffic and enabled the hard running wingers in Brendan Verrier (K Craft Bullbars Best player award winner) and Dylan Main to become damaging with numerous thrusts forward that overwhelmed the opposition backs. Mason Shaw slipped straight back into the groove after many weeks out after a facial operation, and took many telling marks. He was able to kick six straight goals before losing range which could of ended with more than his seven. Congratulations to Carl Hogan for his first game and Brendan Chen and Sheldon Taylor for their first wins for the club. Thanks to all the support staff and I hope they enjoyed the Presidents luncheon. Back to work this week as we take on East Perth before a couple of lighter weeks during the double bye.

Bulldogs Bark - Edition 7

There is no doubt the two AFL clubs based in WA want to field teams in the WAFL as early as 2013. Pressure is being applied by the Eagles and Dockers to the football commission for it to happen sooner rather than later.

In the next few weeks each WAFL club will have a visit from the commission to air their views on the pros and cons of the proposed bye model.

A recent survey of the nine WAFL clubs revealed a near unanimous opposition to the introduction of the AFL reserves teams in the WAFL.

The process adopted by the football commission has been flawed from the start by its refusal to discuss one of the most important questions asked by the WAFL clubs – the matter of financial compensation.

The WAFL clubs are seeking a licence fee of $150,000 to be paid annually to each club which obviously the AFL clubs are baulking at. Simply put, whilst the Eagles are flushed with funds and money may not be a major concern, the Dockers can’t afford an annual fee of around $600,000.

Another stumbling block is the destabilising of the competition which is still recovering fixture wise since the introduction of a ninth licence to Peel Thunder in 1997.

Gone are the days when clubs enjoyed an even home and away sequence in fixturing which made it easy for supporters to organise their Saturday afternoon at the football.

A sneak peek at a set of draft fixtures reveals that one club will play only one home game in the last seven rounds, which would be totally unacceptable.

Round 9 - League Report

The loss to East Perth at Medibank stadium on Saturday gives the Bulldogs a 3 win 5 loss record after the 9th round of fixtures which under the circumstances is a good reflection on how the team is travelling at the moment.

The side’s inability to put away teams when in a winning position came to the fore again on Saturday when they relinquished a 12 point lead ten minutes before the final siren to go down by the same margin.

There however, were many positives during the game which should hold the team in good stead for the next encounter with East Fremantle in three weeks time on Foundation Day (WA Day).

The emergence of Ben Saunders as a quality forward, the improved performance of Sean Tighe in the ruck, the return of Adam Guglielmana from a knee reconstruction and the team as a whole adjusting better to the coach’s game plan are all positive signs to build upon going forward.

Having a three week break could not have come at a better time allowing the players to freshen up for the derby and hopefully atone for a dismal performance on the Anzac Day round at Shark Park.

The better players against the Royals were H. Schloithe, K. Miller, B. Saunders, T. Bairstow, J. Winter, R. Murphy.

Final Score: East Perth 17.8 Defeated South Fremantle 15.8

Round 9 - Colts Report

This week the South’s colts were able to get off the a blistering start and laid a good foundation for a comfortable win. However, the second quarter lapse was disappointing and the early lead was easily wasted as the players reduced their work rate and were lead to the ball by their opponents. Brett Hill was one player that performed at a good standard for much of the match and gave his small midfielders first use of the ball. Reece Miller continued his good form and along with Sam Lowrie and Brendan Verrier forced the ball forward numerous times. The second half was similar the first in that the Bulldogs were able to build another lead in the third quarter and then relaxed and allowed a determined East Perth to erode away the earlier good work. Jayden D’Vauz and Robbie Thompson did well down back and Dale Hamilton was running hard to get back into some form that we are accustomed to expect from a player of his calibre. Still the boys were able to cover the loss of two team mates during the game and overcome a growing injury list. The double bye will be a welcome break for the boys thathave work hard for the position atop the ladder.
