The WA Football Commission in conjunction with Sekem is very excited to announce the winners of the 2009 Design a Football Jumper competition.
This year over 100 schools from around the state took part in the competition which involved designing a football jumper which truly reflected the ethos of the school and took into account other aspects of the community such as local landmarks, location of school, cultural influences and sporting involvement.
The entries were narrowed down to 17 finalists with the Metropolitan winner being Belinda Brewer from Forrestdale Primary School and the Regional winner Indigo Gerrard from Jungdranung Remote Community School
Clayton Anderson from the WA Football Commission stated “Sekem have produced a set of 20 playing jumpers in the winning designs and on behalf of the WAFC and Sekem. We hope that Forrestdale Primary School and Jungdranung RCS wear the jumpers with pride for many years to come”.
“Both designs truly reflect the culture and ethos of the respective schools and offer the school football teams the opportunity to promote their schools identity each time they represent their school”.
Formal presentations to both Schools were conducted this month with South Fremantle District Development Staff on hand to make the presentation to Belinda at Forrestdale Primary School and Kimberley Regional Development Officer Aaron Dunster travelling to Jungdranung RCS to present Indigo and her school with a brand new set of jumpers.
Mrs Sue Smith, the Principal of Jungdranung Remote Community School said “It was wonderful that the School had won these jumpers as they had to borrow football jumpers and resources from the Kimberley District to compete in the Eagles Cup and Lightning Carnivals. Now they have their own jumpers that represent their School and will now take the field in future games feeling extremely proud of themselves.”
